ARôMES DE PAVIE 2006, CHâTEAU PAVIE

Since Gerard Perse took over at Chateau Pavie, quality (and price!) has sky-rocketed. Decreasing production by as much as 50%, he has concentrated on quality above all else. Many Bordeaux insiders believe Pavie to have one of, if not the best terroirs in all of St-Emillion. This Second Wine is relatively new on the market and offers more than a glimpse of the majesty of the Grand Vin for a fraction of the price. Made from the younger vines of the estate, this smooth and stylish wine is a blend of 70% Merlot and Cabernets Franc and Merlot.

What more can be said about Château Pavie? A controversial wine if ever there was one, lauded by some for its power, criticised by others for its lack of typicity. Whether you like the style or not, it is a wine of undisputed singularity in Bordeaux, svelte, elegant and massive, particularly in warmer years. Ever since new owner Perse took over in 1998 no expense has been spared to extract the most from this magnificent terroir, said by some Bordeaux old-timers to be one of the greatest in all of Bordeaux.
