THE WARWICK CASE
A SELECTION FROM DIFFERENT GRAPE VARIETIES
This part of London contains a lot of Warwicks - road, gardens etc. but this Roberson mixed case trumps them all, being the only one you can drink.
This selection of three pairs of reds and three pairs of whites has been carefully chosen to show off some of the wines in the shop we think are great value.
They're from all over the world, but what they do have in common is that they're quite simply delicious drinks and terrific value for money.

MIXED CASE INCLUDES
-
2 x Le Grand Noir 'GSM' 2007, Hugh, Kevin & Robert
This brilliant Languedoc red is a modern, almost New World-style blend of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 5% Mouvedre. It is smooth, full-bodied and with a wonderful spicy finish.
Le Grand Noir is a range of new-wave wines from the Languedoc region of France produced by flying winemaker Hugh Ryman, label designer Kevin Shaw and wine writer Robert Joseph. They produce wines of genuine quality and flavour, combining French character with New World accessibility.
-
2 x Sangiovese 2008, Castello di Querceto 'I Colombi'
This 100% Sangiovese could actually qualify as a Chianti Classico as all of the fruit is from vineyards within the zone. Alessandro prefers to declassify the fruit into this I.G.T as it comes from the youngest vines on the estate and while it may not be a vin de garde, it drinks beautifully in its first few years. The combination of fresh dark cherry fruit and creamy vanilla (from the 12 months spent in oak) is superbly balanced, resulting in a wine that punches well above its weight.
According to the famed Gambero Rosso guide, “Castello di Querceto remains among the most impressive operations, with its entire line of wines riding high”. The spectacular 65 hectare estate has been owned by the Francois family for over 100 years and the current owner Alessandro has overseen a significant rise in quality over the last decade, resulting in a great deal of critical acclaim, most notably from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
The Querceto wines effortlessly combine classic Sangiovese characteristics with the silky and luxurious texture you would expect from one of the region’s best estates. -
2 x La Petite Perrière Blanc 2009, Guy Saget
-
2 x Les Salices Viognier, Vin de Pays d'Oc 2008, J&F Lurton
Jacques & François Lurton turn out consistently reliable wines from across France for everyday drinking. And you can’t say fairer than that. The wines are all in the modern, easy-going, fruity mould and represent great value for such consistently good drinking.
-
2 x Viñalba Malbec Reserva 2007, Domaine Vistalba
The 2006 vintage of this wine was named the Best Wine in the World under £10, and subsequent vintages do not disappoint. Rich and inviting on the nose, with ripe black fruits and hints of smoke. In the mouth this Malbec is wonderfully complex, its rich blackcurrant and plum fruit combining with toasty vanilla oak to create an elegant yet full-bodied mouthfeel. Great with most meat dishes, but is especially perfect with a big, juicy steak.
-
2 x La Ciboise Cotes du Ventoux Blanc 2009, Michel Chapoutier
Making an astonishing range of wines from the lowly appellations of the Cotes du Ventoux, to the exalted single vineyard sites of L’Ermite, La Mordoree, the quality of Chapoutiers wines is consistently outstanding. The rather theatrical Michel Chapoutier is a big personality, with outspoken views on just about everything continues to invest massively in the vineyard and the winery to ensure the quality of the grapes throughout the winemaking process. His white wines from the Northern Rhone are particularly note-worthy, amongst the most dense, complex and ageworthy as any in France.
